District registers a pass percentage of 85.69 in SSC exam

VMC-run schools also fare well

VIJAYAWADA: Students of Krishna district registered a pass percentage of 85.69 in the SSC examination held in the month of March, whose results were announced on Wednesday. The district secured fourth place in the State in terms of pass percentage. District Collector N. Sridhar said in a statement that boys secured a pass percentage of 86.03 and girls 85.35. Students of Social Welfare residential hostels did extremely well with a pass percentage of 98.47 (an increase from last year’s 96.72), followed by students of BC hostels whose pass percentage too was an impressive 95.33 (increase from last year’s 93.15). The pass percentage in ST hostels was 91 per cent, up from last year’s 86 per cent. Mr. Sridhar expressed satisfaction that the district climbed one position up in the list, as it stood at fifth position in the State last year with a pass percentage of 82.15. He said that a comprehensive plan was chalked out for 2008-09 academic year, which helped both teachers and students to get good results in the examination.

Students of schools run by the VMC also did well by securing a pass percentage of 87 in the SSC examination.

VMC Commissioner P.S. Pradyumna said in a statement that the pass percentage improved over last year’s 82. Of the 1,594 students who appeared for the examination from the 26 schools (23 English and Telugu medium schools and 3 Urdu medium schools) of the VMC, 1,389 passed. Of them, 999 students got first class, 298 students passed in second class and the remaining 92 in third class.
