Pitani Venkata Ramu, an activist, Right to Information Act and also former MPTC of Turangi near Kakinada, has said the controversial KPR Thermal Plant did not obtain any permission from gram panchayats (GPs) of G. Dontamuru in Rangampeta mandal and Bhalabhadrapuram village in Bikkavolu mandal where the plant has been proposed.
Addressing a media conference here on Tuesday, he showed related documents and alleged that the KPR management had misled the people and top official machinery, including district administration, by misquoting GPs note files.
He said that both GPs have not passed any resolutions favouring setting up of Thermal Plant at Balavaram and only mentioned that after getting prior permission from the Pollution Control Board, environment clearances, the management can approach the GPs for making fresh resolutions.
Plea to Collector
Mr. Ramu appealed to the Collector that the administration should not allow any works at the proposed plant site till the management gets approval of the GPs.
He also pointed out that when he approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests for getting State-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority’s report, they directed him to get the same from PCB, Kakinada, which failed to give the copies of the report.
The RTI activist asked whether the company got environment clearance or not and if so, why they were hiding the information.
