KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has decided to install a bronze statue of late Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in the heart of Karimnagar town.
A decision to this effect was taken at the municipal corporation condolence meeting held under the leadership of Mayor D. Shankar on Saturday. The meeting expressed shock and grief over the tragic end of Dr. Reddy in helicopter crash and also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
Cutting across party lines, all the corporators unanimously passed a resolution urging the corporation to install the bronze statue of Dr. Reddy in the town. The members also favoured appointment of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy as the Chief Minister for the continuation of welfare schemes initiated by Dr. Reddy in the State. At another press conference, Karimnagar legislator G. Kamalakar favoured naming of road leading from Kaman cross roads to Indira Chowk in the town in memory of Dr Reddy as “YSR marg”.
