The Bharatiya Janata Party State president G. Kishan Reddy will stage a satyagraha in New Delhi on September 3 in support of the demand for introduction of Bill for separate Telangana in the ongoing monsoon session of the Parliament.
Mr. Kishan Reddy said the three-day fast was aimed at mounting pressure on the Congress-led UPA coalition that was dodging the issue. The Congress tried to avoid a solution to the long pending issue and this was evident from the way it responded to the debate on a resolution moved by senior party leader Prakash Javadekar in Rajya Sabha. The Congress made sure the resolution was defeated in the Upper House on the ground that consultation with major political parties was underway. He wondered how the Congress leadership could make such claims when the ruling party had not clarified its stand on the issue. “The Congress has no right to speak about Telangana and the party is sure to forfeit its security deposits across the region whenever elections are held,” he said.
Mr. Kishan Reddy ridiculed TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s claims on ensuring that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was not made the Prime Minister. Mr. Naidu should keep to his party which, he said was a “sinking ship” as it lost people’s confidence. A final decision on BJP’s choice for Prime Ministerial candidate was yet to be taken and “his (Mr. Naidu’s) own family members will support Mr. Modi”.
