Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will be visiting New Delhi on April 6 to attend a conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts.
Officially, his itinerary refers to participation in this conference. However, Mr. Reddy is expected to take some time out to meet the party’s central leadership to discuss government and party related issues.
The Chief Minister’s camp followers are claiming that Mr. Reddy would try to impress upon the top leaders to give him the go-ahead to undertake Cabinet expansion. If it is ruled out, he plans to urge them to allow him to carry out re-allocation of portfolios to his colleagues.
But, party seniors including some Ministers were sceptical whether or not the high command would allow Cabinet re-jig or expansion in midst of the Assembly session. Given the precarious numbers it has owing to the open defiance by at least nine MLAs during the no-confidence motion, the central leadership is expected to be careful in taking a decision at this juncture, a senior leader said.
While the Chief Minister is said to be keen to ease out Ministers, who are not getting along with him, he is also keen on inducting his supporters. He is also expected to take the guidance of the party leadership on facing the local bodies’ elections. Another senior leader said Mr. Reddy may have to explain to the party leadership the circumstances with regard to the power tariff hike.
Sources said the Chief Minister may present the list of names of persons to be nominated by the Governor to the Legislative Council.
