Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will leave for New Delhi on Sunday morning to attend the annual conference of Chief Ministers and Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts which will be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Congress party sources said Mr. Reddy was keen on calling on the party president Sonia Gandhi, who is expected to return to Delhi on Sunday after a brief visit outside the capital, and AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad to explain his decision to partially roll back the power tariff hike in the wake of criticism. He is also expected to seek their clearance to go in for a cabinet reshuffle so that he approaches the general elections with what he feels could be ‘a winning team’. It is well known that he wants to drop some Ministers who have been openly criticising the government and the Congress party.
Meanwhile, former Minister J. C. Diwakar Reddy told reporters that there was little chance for a Cabinet re-jig as the State is already in election mode. He ruled out a change of leadership and asserted that Mr. Reddy would lead the party in the next elections.
