Amalapuram: Traffic was disrupted for more than five hours in the town on Tuesday, when family members and relatives of three deceased persons staged a rasta roko at Clock-tower.
Three persons died on Monday night in Ragahavendra Apartments near Ganesh Nagar center, when they were cleaning septic tank of the apartment. Akumarti Mahesh (27), Gampala Yesu (22), and Kona Srinivas (25) died when they ventured into septic tank.
They started the work around 11.30 p.m and Mahesh first got down into tank and fainted in it within minutes. Then Yesu also tried to get into tank and drowned. Srinivas, who is looking at his friend’s plight, started shouting people around the apartment and then he also jumped into tank to save his other two friends. Immediately, some one called 108 Ambulance and Fire services and then police. DSP A. Subbarao, CI N. Babji and others tried to lift the bodies from the tank and around 2.30 a.m they shifted the bodies to hospital. By the time two died and Srinivas died in the hospital within an hour.
On Tuesday, the relatives of the victims staged a rasta roko along with bodies demanding ex gratia. Revenue authorities and apartment owners negotiated with relatives of victims to give compensation to each family around Rs.2 lakh and dharna was called off in the afternoon.
