Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy said the King George Hospital would be improved with construction of new buildings and equipment with a cost of Rs.75 crore. ONGC, BHEL and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant would contribute Rs.15 crore each. Discussions were going on with NMDC for another Rs.15 crore. NTPC, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and HPCL would contribute Rs.5 crore each, he said.
On the ‘Harita Visakha’ project taken up to plant 40 lakh saplings in five years, he said so far four lakh were planted and another four lakh would be completed before March. Mr. Subbarami Reddy, who takes up service activities through TSR Sevapeetham, said testing of eyes would be carried for 50,000 students in six months in a programme called “Yuvadrishti.” So far 1,150 students were given away glasses beginning with 500 in V.S. Krishna Government College. On Wednesday, glasses were given away to 150 of the 275 identified in Government Women’s College. He said for nearly 10 years now, 10 doctors had been extending medical services in as many vans to the poor through the peetham. Air Travellers Association of India president D.
