The three-day district-level sports and cultural meet of Kasturibha Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas began at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex here on Saturday. Project Director of DRDA Jyoti lighted the torch to mark the inauguration of the sports meet.

On the occasion, she said that girls were not inferior to boys in any of the activities, and asked them to prove their mettle in both sports and education.

K.V. Ramana, Project Director of Rajiv Vidya Mission, said that 1,200 girls from 33 KGBV schools in the district were participating in the district-level sports like kabaddi, kho kho, long jump, high jump, tennis, volleyball, running, discuss throw etc and the winners will be sent to participate in a state-level sports meet. Mr. Ramana said that KGBV schools registered a pass percentage of 96 in SSC examination last year and hoped to achieve 100 per cent this year. Earlier, the schoolchildren presented march-past.
