VISAKHAPATNAM: A gastrointestinal surgery called laparoscopic gastric resection (keyholes) was performed at Seven Hills Hospital on Tuesday.

According to a press release from the hospital, senior gastrointestinal surgeon B.B. Das removed a portion of stomach of the 43 year old morbidly obese patient V. Satyanarayana by making small keyholes in his tummy. The patient is recovering well.

The surgery is done on acutely obese persons, particularly the one with major health problems like diabetes like those who are overweight with uncontrolled type-2 diabetes.

The surgery also controls high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, snoring, and other problems related to obesity and reduces the chance of cardiac problems in obese persons.
