Kasaraneni Sadasiva Rao, 90, a pioneering educationist, a seasoned politician, and an endearing surgeon, passed away at his home in Lakshmipuram here on Tuesday.

The People’s Nursing Home, which Sadasiva Rao had established on the Old Club Road in Kothapet, has been offering treatment to patients free of cost till date.

Strongly influenced by JP’s movement in the 70s, Sadasiva Rao contested on the Janata Party ticket against Kotha Raghuramaiah of the INC in 1977 and against Acharya N.G. Ranga in 1980 on the Lok Dal Party ticket.

Though he had lost both the elections, Sadasiva Rao never gave up and went on to win from Pedakurapadu Assembly constituency in the 1984 elections. He lost this seat to Minister for Agriculture Kanna Lakshmi Narayana in the elections held in 1989.

As a founding secretary and later president of Nagarjuna Educational Society, Sadasiva Rao was instrumental in setting up JKC College and many professional colleges under the umbrella of the NES.
