Viveka for probe by apex court judge into YSR chopper crash
YSR Congress Party candidate B. Karunakar Reddy has promised to realise Galeru Nagari canal to quench the thirst of the denizens and the devotees visiting Tirupati.
Unveiling a mammoth plan for eighty years at a ‘Meet the Press' programme organised by the Tirupati Press Club here on Thursday, he said Galeru in Kadapa and Nagari in Chittoor district would be linked soon, while a reservoir to store 4 tmcft water would be built near Tirupati, which he said would take care of the drinking water needs of the constituency for the next eight decades. He recalled that he had undertaken a ‘Padayatra' for 650 km way back in 2002 for the Galeru Nagari project. He promised to develop the 42 slums in Tirupati.
Refuting allegations that the price of Laddus were hiked from Rs.10 to Rs.25 each during his stint as the TTD Chairman, he recalled that he had hiked the price of only those ‘laddus' cornered in bulk numbers by the ‘self-styled VVIPs' to be distributed as ‘sweet packets' to friends and relatives. He had instead introduced a scheme to give free (small) laddus to every pilgrim visiting the temple.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress leader Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy demanded a probe by a sitting judge of Supreme Court into the ‘chopper accident' in which his elder brother and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was killed in 2009. He said the government should come out with a full-fledged inquiry, instead of giving scope for suspicion to creep in.
The former Minister said when such rumours are afloat, close relatives are bound to believe them. ‘The doubts raised by Ms. Vijayamma are not with an eye on the polls as alleged by the Congress and TDP, but it was the first issue mentioned in the YSRCP's maiden plenary meet', he said at a media conference here on Thursday. He pointed to the scores of loose ends left unattended on the black box and voice recorder issues and sought clarification.
While the Congress carried on its tirade against YSR after his demise, the tone and tenor touched the level of ‘character assassination' after the visit of AICC leader Vayalar Ravi to the State, he charged. He said the Congress disowned the one who breathed life into it .
