Taking serious exception to the Congress party’s vacillating stand on the contentious Telangana issue, YSR Congress central committee member and Tirupati legislator Bhumana Karunakar Reddy resigned his membership to the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. He is the lone legislator from the party in Chittoor district to submit his papers.
Coming down heavily on the UPA government for considering the Telangana issue just as an ‘electoral option’ by weighing its pros and cons against the party’s future, Mr. Reddy asked the Congress to stop considering the people of the State as mere ‘voters’. “Such a unilateral decision will not be accepted as it (the Congress) is not the sole deciding authority. The Congress cannot demand the other political parties to reveal their stand by keeping its cards close to the chest,” he told The Hindu over phone.
The Congress should consider all parties’ views on the issue and then give its proposal to the Centre, he said.
