Temples in East Godavari district drawing huge crowds

Rajahmundry: ‘Karthika masam’ is an important season for religious activity and it gives fillip to tourism in East Godavari every year. This year, the number of devotees as well as tourists increased for two ‘Pancharamas’ and Papikondalu tourist spot.

‘Karthika masam’ is being observed in Draksharama and Samarlakota Pancharama kshetras along with Kotipalli, Kotilingala and other Siva temples. All temples in the district have been colourfully decorated and women in large numbers are offering prayers, particularly on Mondays, in all Siva temples. Umaramalingeswara temple and Kotilingala temple in Rajahmundry on the bank of the Godavari, Kotilingeswara Swami temple near the Goutami river at Kotipalli are also packed with devotees. Special poojas are being performed at Annavaram temple also. “The number of devotees thronging temples has increased this year, says Sastry of Kotilingala temple. Draksharama temple has unprecedented crowd this year, says executive officer of Samarlakota Bheemeswara temple.

With regard to Papikondalu, the number of boats from Lanchila Revu has been increased. While the number of foreign tourists and those from other states increased, the number of domestic tourists also went up, says Annepu Suresh, general manager of River Bay Resorts.

Anand Regency is having good tourism flow this year. Their Razole Resorts is packed and their hotel in Rajahmundry is also doing good business with foreign as well as local tourists. “Hospitality business is increasing day by day,” says Ramakrishna, general manager, Anand Regnecy.
