The Cyberabad police on Tuesday seized the licensed revolver of a Karnataka BJP MLA after it was found in his luggage at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport during a security check.
The MLA of Aurad constituency in Bidar district, Prabhu Chauhan, was flying to New Delhi. While scanning his luggage, the security personnel found the revolver of 7.65 mm calibre and 20 bullets in a bag. “The MLA said his staff mistakenly kept the weapon and the ammunition in the bag. Verification of his weapon licence revealed that it had expired three months ago,” the police said.
Mr. Chauhan, however, maintained that he had already applied to the Bidar District Magistrate for renewal. The MLA was allowed to resume his journey. The RGIA police station officials said no case was registered.
