Many CC members arrested, killed in encounters since 1999

Other top cadres from district moving in Chhattisgarh

KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar district produced several top Maoists including its supremo Muppala Laxman Rao alias Ganapathi. However, the naxalites suffered setbacks owing to a series of police encounters and arrest of several central committee (CC) members since 1999.

First it was the encounter of CC members Nalla Adi Reddy and Seelam Naresh and two naxalites in Koyyur of Tadicherla mandal in December 1999, another CC member and four others killed in Maddimalla encounter in Karimnagar district in 2000, State committee secretary Burra Chandranna alias Madhav of Mangapeta village in Kalwa Srirampur mandal was killed in July 2006.

Another CC member Vadkapur Chandramouli alias Devanna of Vadkapur village of Julapalli mandal and his wife Kavithakka alias Karuna were killed in encounter in December 2006.

CC member Sande Rajamouli alias Prasad of Gudem village in Odela mandal was killed in encounter in Anantapur district. His wife Nyalakonda Rajitha alias Padmakka was killed in Nerella of Sarangapur mandal in 2003.

Arrest of CC members

Maoist CC member and polit bureau member Malla Raji Reddy alias Sayanna of Sasthrulapalli village of Manthani and his wife were arrested at Ernakulam in Kerala in 2007. Another CC member Gopu Sammi Reddy alias Gopanna native of Kanukulagidde of Huzurabad mandal was arrested in 2008.

Several underground

Still four CC members from the district including Ganapathi of Bheerpur village in Sarangapur mandal, Mallojula Koteswara Rao alias Prahlad alias Murali and his brother Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Vivek of Peddapalli and Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy alias Sadhu alias Gopanna of Gopalraopalli village of Sircilla mandal, Tippiri Tirupati alias Sanjeevi of Korutla town are underground in various parts of the country.

Besides, several other top cadres hailing from the district including Bandarapu Mallaiah alias Chandranna of Machupeta village of Manthani Mutharam, Mohd. Nizamuddin alias Ramanna alias Shankar of Korutla mandal are moving in Dandakaranya region of Chhattisgarh State.

High alert

The Karimnagar district police sounded a high alert following Sunday’s encounter of CC member Patel Sudhakar Reddy and another naxalite leader in Warangal district.

Sensing retaliation from the Maoists in protest against the encounter, the police fortified police stations in the interior villages by deploying additional forces.

They also alerted targets to move out of villages to towns and other safer places. The police was maintaining a close surveillance of all vital installations.
