The Karimnagar district police machinery is gearing up to ensure smooth conduct of byelections in five assembly segments in the district with the deployment of central para-military forces and civil police forces from various parts of the State.
Disclosing this to newsmen here on Thursday, Superintendent of Police N. Shivashankar Reddy said that they had identified 272 hyper sensitive polling stations, 230 sensitive and 29 extremists affected polling stations in all the five Assembly segments in the district.
The police have decided to deploy at least 10 striking forces and 10 special striking forces, police pickets, intensify patrolling on foot and mobile during the elections.
Giving details about the security measures in the district, the SP said that they had opened 15 check posts and conducting surprise checks of vehicles and recovered 830 gelatin sticks and 500 electric detonators and registered 18 cases of illegal carrying of explosives. He said that they had arrested 166 persons and for selling arrack and closed 620 belt shops. He said that they had ensured deposition of 330 licenced weapons out of 470 weapons. He said that they had recovered Rs 78.30 lakh cash during their checking of vehicles .
