The famous Antarvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Swami Kalyanotsavams got under way on Thursday as Ratha Saptami falls on this day. A large number of devotees from different parts of the State thronged the temple which was beautifully decorated for Kalyanotsavams.
This is the popular Narasimha Kshetram in the Godavari districts and after Simhachalam, Antarvedi Narasimha is the most powerful God. The mighty Godavari and its distributaries join the Bay of Bengal near the temple town.
On the occasion of Ratha Saptami, ‘kalyana tilakam' was put on the forehead of the idols of Narasimha Swami and His consort Lakshmi on Thursday as the Kalyanotsavam falls on 13 night 1.06 am under Mrigasira Nakshatram, Vrischika lagnam.
Assistant Commissioner of the Endowments department V.V.V.S.N. Murthy and Chairman of the temple Rajaha Kalidindi Simha Gajapati Bahadur and Chief Priest Vadapalli Butchi Babu led the procession of utsav deities on “Surya Vahanam” designed by Adabala Venkanna of Sringavarappadu in the evening. Hundreds of devotees participated in the procession.
According to Mr. Murthy, Assistant Commissioner of Endowments they made palm leaf pandals at Kalyana mandapam and barricaded the entire area for effective crowd management. Jettis construction in Lanchila Revu was completed and 40 per cent of the devotees cross the river Godavari and reach the temple n launches.
Amalapuram DSP Rajasekhara Rao, under whom the temple falls, visited the temple in the morning and deployed 1,050 constables, four DSPs, 12 CIs and 50 SIs for security arrangements.
There is a precedent in the temple that Archaka Swamis from Peruru will definitely participate in special pooja to Koormanatha Swami, whose idol was caught in the nets of fishermen in Raktatulya river during the 14th century.
