VIJAYAWADA: The annual ‘Kalasa Jyothi’ event was held in a colourful manner in the city on Wednesday. Hundreds of devotees participated in the procession from Sivaramakrishna Kshetram at Satyanarayanpuram to Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri.
Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam made special arrangements for the event this year. As the processional deities of goddess Kanakadurga and Lord Malleswara Swami reached the Kshetram, Executive Officer of the Devasthanam N. Vijaya Kumar flagged off the procession by breaking a coconut.
Holding traditional lamps in the hands, devotees followed the chariot-like motor vehicle that was decorated with flowers, in which the processional deities were arranged. The procession passed through Alankar centre, Police control room and Canal road before reaching the temple.
The lamps were arranged near ‘Om’ circle on the hillock and the processional deities were taken to the temple in a palanquin.
