The State government has postponed the Kakatiya festival that was to begin on November 26.

The agitation by some sections including the one led by Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar demanding more funds and grand celebration of the festival notwithstanding, the government suddenly postponed the festival.

No reasons were given by the district officials who said they received instructions from the Tourism secretary about the new dates.

According to orders, the festival will now be held on December 21, 22 and 23. According to sources, nearly 500 artistes from different corners of the State are practicing to take part in the festival. The Surbahi repertoire has invested about Rs. 50,000 and conceived a dance ballet ‘Ramappa’. Rehearsals were being held for the past many days on the instructions from the district administration. The festival was last held in 1997. It began in 1991 and was held second time in 1993. After a gap of two decades, the district administration, following public demand, decided to conduct the festival for three days from November 26. The sources saidnot a single rupee was sanctioned so far for the festival.
