South Central Railway General Manager G.N. Asthana inspects Kadapa railway station and other facilities
The new railway line between Kadapa and Bangalore will take about six to seven years for completion, South Central Railway General Manager G.N. Asthana said here on Monday.
Mr. Asthana, Guntakal Divisional Railway Manager Tej Pratap Singh and IG of Railway Police Force Mohan and other railway officials inspected Kadapa railway station and other facilities. The Proddatur-Cumbum line would be completed within three years, he said in Kadapa.
Earlier, Mr. Asthana said in Rajampet that the Renigunta-Guntakal railway line doubling would be completed shortly. Completion of the 50-km line between Kondapuram and Rayalacheruvu railway station would facilitate running of two trains on different tracks and completion of electrification works, Mr. Asthana told newsmen at Rajampet. He assured to display a signboard in the railway station on prominent temples. The GM inaugurated rail udyan, a park in the foreyard of Rajampet railway station and planted saplings. Rajampet railway station manager Srinivasulu and Railway Mazdoor Union leaders welcomed Mr. Asthana, and senior officials who came by a special train from Renigunta. He inspected two platforms, foot-over-bridge, passenger waiting rooms, drinking water facility, ticket booking counter and records.
All-party leaders urged Mr. Asthana in Rajampet to revive a railway under-bridge and establish a locoshed unit at Nandalur. TDP leaders -- Sudhakar, T. Lakshminarayana, women's wing president P. Kusuma Kumari, BJP leader N. Ramesh Naidu, Yuva Morcha women leader Vijayalakshmi, Lok Satta leader C. Chandrasekhar, CPI leader C. Ravi Kumar sought extension of Chennai-Tirupati Garudadri Express, Secunderabad-Kurnool Tungabhadra passenger, Mysore-Bangalore-Tirupati Mysore Express trains up to Kadapa.
They also sought extension of Tirupati-Chennai Egmore express train up to Lingampalli in Hyderabad. On the plea to halt Tirupati-Hazrat Nizamuddin Kranthi express in Rajampet, the GM assured a one-minute halt at Rajampet. Mr. Asthana assured to send proposals to the Central and State governments seeking sanction of funds for reviving the under-bridge at Rajampet, if proposals were received from the local MP and MLA. He assured to apprise the Railway Board on demand for a railway wagon unit at Nandalur. Lands were identified at Kazipet and some places but no decision was taken yet, he said. Additional bogies would be added to several trains to meet passenger rush.
