Jana Vignana Vedika has expressed its serious anguish over the dwindling sex ratio across the country due to the growing craze for son preference. It adopted a resolution at its district conference here with an appeal to the administration to act tough on the instances of female infanticides. It also urged the official top brass to keep a watch on the functioning of scanning centres which were allegedly thriving on sex determination tests in the district.

The conference demanded that the administration suspend the proposals for establishing power plants in the district. The JVV apprehended that the thermal power plants, if allowed, would displace a large number of people. JVV elected its new executive at the conference which include Lella Venkateswara Rao (president) and S.N. Ramesh (general secretary).
