Chittoor: The State government has sanctioned 50 junior colleges and 59 degree colleges besides 33 ITI and 37 polytechnic colleges during this year.

Speaking after inaugurating the junior and ITI colleges at Narasingrayanipeta in rural Chittoor mandal on Monday, Minister for Law, Technical and Higher Education R. Chengareddy said the State has now the distinction of being called ‘Vidyandhra Pradesh’.

He narrated the other achievements under the Congress rule like the Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme, Rajiv Arogyasri, agricultural loan waiver and the irrigation projects in the district.

Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma expressed her gratitude to the Minister for sanctioning the colleges in her constituency which was the long-cherished dream of the people of this area . She requested the Minister to anction a checkdam on the Neeva river near to this place and veterinary hospital. The Minister then presented a cheque for Rs. 2 lakh on behalf of Higher Education Department to the junior college. CDCMS Chairmen Velkuru Babu Reddy, Intermediate RJD Rajakumari and MPDO Bala Krishna Reddy among others participated .
