VIJAYAWADA: Diamond and gold jewellery, silver ornaments and cash, all worth some Rs.13 lakhs, were stolen from the house of a furniture shop owner in Governorpet. The burglary came to light on Friday when the house owners returned from Singanore in Karnataka.The Governorpet police said that Tondepu Prasad, proprietor of Padmavathi Furnishings Tondepu at Wynchipet, left for Singanore along with his family members to attend the engagement of his son on Wednesday night.
The house, located in the second floor of a commercial complex on Ali Baig Street, was properly locked and one of the tenants in the first floor was asked to operate the water motor for a couple of days.
The tenant Seshagiri Rao went to the second floor on Thursday evening to operate the motor and found that the main door of the house was opened.He told the police that a set of diamond ear studs, two diamond rings, gold jewellery weighing 870 grams, silver ornaments weighing 10 kg and Rs. 2.5 lakhs cash were missing .
Gold jewellery weighing 150 grams was missing from a suitcase placed in an RTC bus at Pandit Nehru Bus Station on Friday. The Krishnalanka police said Basava Lakshmi of Hyderabad came to the city to her relatives' house on Wednesday. She went to the bus station and bought a ticket to HyderabadWhen the bus was about to move, Ms. Lakshmi found that her suitcase was broke open and gold jewellery was missing.
