Accusing the State government of being nonchalant towards the problems of the peasantry, president of the YSR Congress Party Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday demanded that the government must announce ex-gratia to the farmers who lost their standing crop to the cyclone Helen without any delay and ensure that the help must reach the beneficiaries in a transparent manner. Accompanied by the party leaders, Mr. Jagan visited the cyclone-affected areas in the Konaseema region and interacted with the farmers here. Beginning his tour from Kothapeta, he interacted with the farmers who cultivated banana and paddy and lost the entire standing crop to the cyclone.
The tour proceeded towards Avidi, Elisettivaripalem, Mukkamala and Nadipudi before reaching the town.
During his interaction with the farmers, Mr. Jagan alleged that the ruling Congress party in the State was keener on Delhi politics, rather than addressing the problems of the people in the State.
He felt that there was no sincerity among the leaders about the civic issues. Mr. Jagan demanding that the government must fix the ex-gratia as Rs. 10,000 per acre and release the amount immediately.
