Parties and organisations supporting statehood take out rallies

RTC buses off the road for second in less than a week

Educational institutions declare holiday well in advance

KHAMMAM: The JAC-sponsored bandh was total and peaceful barring stray incidents in Khammam district on Wednesday.

Political parties and organisations supporting the demand for separate Telangana took out rallies and staged demonstrations at the district headquarters and other towns including Kothagudem, Palvancha, Manuguru and Yellandu. The TRS and CPI(ML News Democracy) activists were in the fore front in forcing closure of the shops and establishments. The TDP and CPI leaders supported the bandh.

The State Road Transports Corporation buses were off the road for the second time in less than a week. Some 565 bus services were stopped in the depots in response to the bandh call.

Some seven buses belong to the RTC depots in Khammam were burnt or damaged in Hyderabad and other places on December 25. This time the buses did not move out from the depot in the day.

The RTC authorities had made it clear that no bus would be plied in any of the routes till 5 am on Thursday.

Inter- state services to Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu also were cancelled.

Educational institutions declared holiday well in advance. Theaters suspended the day time shows. Medical shops and hospitals were spared from the bandh effect. Trucks and autos also were off the road for the whole day. In Bhadrachalam town however the auto rickshaws were only means of transport for the devotees stranded in Bhadrachalam town.

The rush in the Bhadradri temple was comparatively less in the day.

Official beaten up

An official conducting training classes for women members of the self help groups at the Training and Technology Development Centre (TTDC) in Khammam town came under the attack of youths organizing the bandh in the town. He was shifted to the hospital by the police. The youths chanted pro Telangana activists.
