KHAMMAM: Leaders of different political parties were arrested as they picketed the collectorate as part of a Telangana JAC sponsored protest here on Monday.

The protest programme was organised demanding the Centre to ensure that the proposed committee would deal exclusive with the formation of Telangana state.

Police were deployed near the collectorate on the occasion.

JAC district convenor Kanakachari, co-convener K. Rangaraju and leaders of different political parties, including Pulipati Venkaiah, Jaheer Ali (Congress), Vidyasagar (BJP), A Venkateswar Rao (CPI -ML New Democracy) and G. Shankar Rao (TRS) took part in the protest.

They prevented officials, employees and general public from entering the collectorate thus calling for the intervention of the police. They chanted slogan demanding government to speed up the process for formation of the state.

Medical JAC formed

A massive rally was taken out in the town under the aegis of the newly formed medical Joint Action committee, which included both government and private doctors, registered medical practitioners, lab assistants and paramedical staff.

Dr. Babujan has been the common choice as the convener of the medical JAC. Addressing the rally, he said the medical JAC would spearhead the campaign for separate Telangana.

It would have considerable impact as those in the medical profession had larger reach in the grassroots.

Dr. Kanakachary said the leaders from the coastal Andhra had been claiming to have invested in the development of Hyderabad. But their concept of development was different.

No common man was in a position to dream of a house site in the city like Hyderabad.

The development in Hyderabad failed to fetch jobs for the educated youths in the region.

Dr Susheela said the poverty that forced mothers to sell children for a price, owed to those who had plundered the region.

Dr. G. Satyanarayana, former TRS president of Khammam district, Dr. Krupakar, Dr Annamraju were among those who took part.
