HYDERABAD: It was a very tough message the police sent to the students on Tuesday night that forced the latter to modify their threat to disrupt the New Year eve celebrations in the state capital to that of an appeal to people not to celebrate.

The city police higher ups were upset over the statement issued by some leaders of the JAC threatening to disrupt the new year celebrations and authorities had at one time thought of clearing the entire campus by physically lifting the agitating students. Police officers discussed the issue with leaders of the JAC and made it clear that they had no other option but to remove them from the campus even by use of force. The officers stressed on the point that the police had been showing extreme restraint while dealing with the students on the Osmania University campus.

Realising that they had made a tactical error in threatening to disrupt the new year celebration events, the student leaders had immediately called the media and retracted their statement.
