VISAKHAPATNAM: Strings of soulful music mingled with hot delicious aroma wafted out of the place. People came pouring in as the cultural programme began to mark the 36th annual day celebrations of Kerala Kala Samithi on Sunday evening. Soulful music, graceful classical dance performances and a mouth-watering array of traditional Kerala delicacies made the evening memorable for the 1,000-odd people who congregated at the venue.
A musical tribute was offered to renowned Malayalam musical artistes P. Bhaskaran and D. Devarajan by singers who were specially invited from Kerala for the occasion. While the soulful songs tuned by Devarajan set the mood for the evening, songs penned by P. Bhaskaran brought back fond memories .
As the evening progressed, hot freshly made crisp delicacies were served to the crowd at the food stalls. The delicious range of traditional food items included kappa and meen curry, appam, parota and chicken, payasam, pazham pori (special Kerala banana bajji). "To preserve the authentic flavour of the traditional dishes, the ingredients were specially brought from Kerala," said president of Kerala Kala Samithi S.G.Vijaya Kumar.
The organisation conducts special celebrations for Onam, Christmas and New Year. "For the 25,000 Malayali families who have made Vizag their home, such events bind them together and bring them closer to the traditional culture and custom of Kerala," he added.
