It’s a Ganesha from Ivory Coast

Coinciding with Vinayaka Chaviti, a major Hindu festival, Ivory Coast, in the far off West Africa released a silver coin of Ganesha.

The silver coin weighing 25 gm comes in a golden-coloured box, in the shape of mouse, the vehicle of Ganesha.

Noted city numismatist D. Satya Buddu, acquired the coin costing a whopping Rs.8,001 (Francs CFA 1001). It’s a non-circulating coin.

Two such coins have been acquired by city gynaecologist K. Ramalakshmi and one gifted to Mr. Satya Buddu. The coin has the image of Ganesha on a peepal leaf with the Sanskrit inscription “Vakratunda.”
