Karimnagar Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar said that he would go with the slogan ‘now or never' for the formation of separate Telangana.

“We will not be treated as traitors of the Telangana movement and would strive for Statehood for Telangana at the earliest,” he pointed out.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said they would pressurise the Congress high command to stick to the December 9, 2009 statement on carving out separate Telangana and introduce a Bill for the formation of the same in the ensuing Parliament session.

Grand meeting

He said the party rank and file of the entire region including elected and local body representatives, other party chiefs and nominated chairpersons would hold a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on January 11 to chalk out the future course of action to pressurise the party high command over the Statehood demand.

Flaying TRS and BJP leaders and other Congress elected representatives from the district for staging dharnas in front of his residence, he said that the opposition parties which contested against him in the elections had no right to stage dharnas.

Instead, they could represent the issue with him as an MP, he added. “The people, the employees and other intellectuals have every right to stage dharnas and pressurise me on the formation of separate Telangana,” he maintained.

Welcoming the BJP national executive passing a resolution favouring formation of separate Telangana, he appealed to the BJP, TDP and TRS to attend the all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and reiterate their stand on the formation of separate Telangana, as given to the then Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on December 7, 2009.

If they give a single statement on Telangana, he would pressure the Congress high command to announce its stand on the same, he added.

Non-cooperation

He also welcomed the government employees' decision to participate in non-cooperation movement demanding the formation of separate Telangana. He hoped that the party high command would carve separate Telangana at the earliest and fulfil its promise.

Town Congress president Kanne Krishan, Mahila Congress president Gugilla Jayashree, PCC secretary Y. Sunil Rao, market committee chairman A. Bhaskar Reddy and others were also present.

‘Gandhigiri'

In a novel protest, Telangana protagonists and JAC leaders adopted ‘Gandhigiri' to please Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar by handing over flowers and appealing him to strive for the formation of separate Telangana in Karimnagar on Sunday.

The pro-Telangana activists, led by JAC leader Tirupathi Naik and others, visited the residence of Karimnagar MP and handed over flowers amid slogans of ‘Jai Telangana'.

Bill

They urged the MP to pressurise the Congress party high command to introduce a Bill in the Parliament for the formation of separate Telangana at the earliest.

The MP assured to strive to fulfil the aspirations of the Telangana people by carving out separate Telangana.
