HYDERABAD: A city-based environmentalist is now ready to take up cudgels against the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), if its proposed Yuva Garjana meeting slated to be held in Guntur next month leads to littering of the meeting ground.

V. Saiprasad Sastry, a senior officer of the Income Tax Department has already created ripples by filing cases against APCC president D. Srinivas and Praja Rajyam (PR) president K. Chiranjeevi accusing them of being responsible for littering of public places with plastic waste during meetings organised in Tirupati in August and September and respectively.

With the TDP planning to hold a major public meeting to be addressed by the actors of N.T. Rama Rao family, Mr. Sastry has dashed off an open letter to all political parties urging them to desist from littering the place drawing their attention to the relevant provisions of law against littering.

Officials’ liability

“I do not want to file another case against any political party again. My only request is that the party should ensure that the ground is cleaned after the meeting”, Mr. Sastry said. If the ground is not cleaned properly, officials who accorded the permission for meeting would also be included in the case, a determined Mr. Sastry indicated.

“Political parties are trying to outsmart each other by conducting huge public gatherings. The PR meeting left Avilala Tank ground with five tonnes of solid waste and Congress meeting left the forest avenue plantation area with one tonne of garbage,” disclosed Mr. Sastry.
