State declines concessions sought by the company due to power crisis

Yet another prestigious automobile project for which the Industry Department has been keeping its fingers crossed, slipped through its fingers.

The Japanese based Isuzu Motors Ltd., which considered Andhra Pradesh to set up a small commercial vehicle and multi-utility vehicle along with other States like Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, has now settled for Pune, it is learnt.

About six months back, Isuzu executives met Government officials and evinced interest in setting up its Rs.1,000 crore project, in Sri City SEZ, in Nellore district, which is quite close to Chennai port in Tamil Nadu.

However, in view of the power crisis, the government could not assure several concessions sought by the group and the proposal fell through, sources added.

The Isuzu Motors has huge range of products - cars, light commercial vehicles, pick up trucks and heavy trucks. It was considering the State for setting up a manufacturing unit for one of the models, sources said.

Though the State had received proposals worth Rs.6.2 lakh crore during Partnership Summit, including proposals worth Rs.2.94 lakh crore, an automobile manufacturing unit by an overseas company still eludes it.
