HYDERABAD: Senior Engineers of the Irrigation Department appeared in person before the Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice A.R. Dave and Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy on Wednesday and explained how the officers had done their best to control the flood situation at Srisailam dam.
The Bench had ordered the engineers to be present to explain whether there were any human lapses. The Bench was hearing two writ petitions complaining about the alleged failure of the Irrigation Department in this regard and damage to Kurnool.
B.S.N. Reddy, Engineer-in-Chief, Irrigation, M.K. Rahman Engineer-in-Chief, Administration, and Y. Abdul Basher, Chief Engineer, Srisailam, appeared in court. Mr. Reddy placed papers and said that the Central Water Commission (CWC) did not send intimation to the agencies of State government much before as was being propagated. He said that even before the alleged warning by the CWC, they had started discharging water downstream.
The Bench adjourned the case by three weeks to facilitate further arguments by the counsel.
