Geetam Degree College here was a beehive of activity as students gathered in large numbers to donate blood on the occasion of the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Tuesday. Holding the camp, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Prakasam district general secretary Ch. Chalamaiah said young and energetic students should be in the forefront to donate blood to lead a healthy life. “You can feel proud saving the lives of patients facing medical emergencies,” said the 76-year-old ophthalmologist who had facilitated formation of red ribbon clubs in 44 colleges in and around Ongole.
A first year B.Sc student U.Satish as also Darla Rajasekhar, second year B.com student, who had donated blood thrice each felt proud, winning the appreciation of fellow students and teachers.
In all, 71 units of blood was collected on a single day, said Society for Training and Employment Promotion (STEP) CEO B.Ravi, who coordinated the camp along with District Chief Planning Officer K.T.Venkaiah and Principal M.Narasimha Rao.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress activists donated 10 units of blood at another blood donation camp inaugurated by party leader Jupudi Prabhakar Rao at the party office here.
