Police Department owes Rs. 53.77 lakhs to Transco

Government offices, industries among defaulters Lok Satta's charge against Transco authorities

KARIMNAGAR: The Lok Satta district unit has asked the Government to invoke the Revenue Recovery (RR) Act for recovery of power bill dues from Government offices, including the Police Department, in the district.

In a press note here on Thursday, Lok Satta president N. Srinivas and secretary T. Rajamouli said the Police Department alone owed a whopping Rs. 53.77 lakhs to the AP Transco. When the Lok Satta sought information on bill defaulters from the Transco authorities under the Right to Information Act, it was found that Government offices and industries were defaulters of power bills.

The Government R&B guest house's power bills accumulated to Rs. 1.14 lakhs. Some telephone and gram panchayat offices had also not paid bills. Mini hydel projects at Dharmaram and Peddapalli owed Rs. 7.27 lakhs and Rs. 1.15 lakhs respectively to the Transco.

Some influential persons and industries were among those who evaded payment of power bills.

The Lok Satta said the Transco authorities disconnect power supply to domestic consumers for non-payment of monthly bills while they neglect Government offices and other departments in collection of power bills.
