International Air Connectivity will soon become a reality from the city. Union Minister for Overseas Indians Affairs and Civil Aviation Vayalar Ravi has agreed to the introduction of direct flights to Singapore from Visakhapatnam and to Dubai via Hyderabad as a ‘New Year gift' to the people of the city.
The Union Minister was said to have given an assurance to this effect to Rajya Sabha Member T. Subbarami Reddy when the latter met him in New Delhi on Friday. While the Singapore flight is expected to provide direct connectivity to Australia, USA, China, Japan and other South East Asian countries, the Dubai flight will provide connectivity to the Middle East, Africa, Europe and USA.
Mr. Vayalar Ravi had also agreed to consider introduction of Air India flights in the near future to Bangalore, Kochi and Port Blair besides replacing the existing CRJ type aircraft in the Delhi – Vizag sector with Air Bus 321.
