Ahead of the crucial Congress Working Committee meeting, the Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee on Thursday decided to step up agitation to keep the State united at any cost.

Welcoming YSR Congress MLA Balineni Srinivasa Reddy's resignation on the Statehood issue, JAC leaders at a meeting held at the Harshini Degree College here, urged MPs and MLAs cutting across party lines to put in their papers to put pressure on the Centre against any move to divide the State. Samaikyandhra Udhima JAC convener and Harshini Degree College Correspondent G.Ravikumar said the legislators and Parliamentarian from Seemandhra should rise up to the occasion. The onus was on them to protect the State's integrity, he added.

Samaikyandhra JAC State co-convener and ABM Degree College principal T.S.S. Singh said the Centre should desist from taking any hasty step on the sensitive issue for any ''short-term political gain''.

Samaikyandhra JAC Legal cell convener S.Ranga Rao said MPs and MLAs who failed to resign would be seen as betrayers of the Samaikyandhra cause.

“We will chalk out a series of agitation,” said state co-convener Rayapatti Jagadeesh said after the meeting was adjourned to Friday.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Revenue Association State president B.Venkateswarulu at a press conference here exhorted the employees to lay siege to the houses of MPs on July 29 to put pressure on them to resign to prevent move to divide State.
