KHAMMAM: Telugu Desam Party district president and former Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao on Saturday came down heavily on the Government for the arrest of the Telugu Ryothu leaders and “innocent farmers” in connection with the attacks on the fertilizer outlets and looting of the godowns that rocked the district.

Blaming it entirely on failure of the Government, especially the agriculture department to draw a proper supply plan for the kharif season, he said that the farmers were becoming restive.

They were quite uncertain of the fate of the standing crops.

The short supply in the complex fertilizers would affect the yield as well.

He said that the farmers were agitated over the failure of the irrigation department also. The tail-end lands under the various irrigation projects were left high and dry. The power supply to the agriculture services continued to be erratic.

Though the Chief Minister and the Minister for Agriculture tried to paint a rosy picture about Kharif, the farmers did not see it.

How far was it justified to blame the leader of the opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu for the raids of the farmers on the fertilizer outlets, he questioned.

He said that the Telugu Ryothu leaders had nothing to do with the fertilizer looting in Khammam. Their arrest could be aimed at covering up the Government’s failure, he said.
