Relatives of patient staged a dharna

GUNTUR: Relatives of a patient, who gave birth to a child, staged a dharna at the Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Monday alleging that the hospital staff demanded a bribe and their negligence led to the infant's death.

The parents of the child -- Tadiboyina Chandrasekhar and Shivaparvathi -- residents of Godavarru village of Amruthalur mandal alleged that the staff demanded Rs.2,000 to provide the necessary treatment when Shivaparvathi complained of labour pains.

She was admitted to the GGH on July 21.

Though senior doctors had advised caesarean operation on the patient, other doctors ignored it, alleged Chandrasekhar.

Shivaparvathi later gave birth to a male child. However, he developed complications and breathed his last within three hours.

The relatives staged a dharna demanding action against the erring staff.
