Gearing up officials connected with drinking water supply for summer, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed them to commence action programmes at the district, mandal and village levels to ensure proper availability and repairs of all defunct bore wells in rural and urban areas.

For this, bore mechanics must be engaged immediately while Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department should speed up its recruitment of engineers. Wherever required, private bore wells could be hired to extend help in areas with scarcity, he said.

He took stock of the likely situation in respect to availability of drinking water during summer at a meeting here on Wednesday, and instructed the RWS Department to commence supply by tankers wherever needed and the Finance Department to release the necessary funds. The meeting comprised Ministers K. Jana Reddy (Panchayat Raj), M. Maheedhar Reddy (Municipal Administration), P. Sudarshan Reddy (Major Irrigation), T. G. Venkatesh (Minor Irrigation), Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew, and AP Transco.

The Chief Minister sought implementation of the action plan at every level by District Collectors and close monitoring of the situation daily.
