District association mulls buying a roller to level the outfield
KDCA to host Ranji Trophy Plate Division match between Andhra and MP in November
VMC has already constructed new rooms for match referee and umpires
VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna District Cricket Association (KDCA), which will be hosting a Ranji Trophy Plate Division match between Andhra and Madhya Pradesh teams in November at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, is making efforts to improve the green cover of the playing arena for the successful conduct of the match.
KDCA is also hosting the State Under-22 matches featuring teams such as Haryana, Tripura and Kerala in October and an Under-19 match between Andhra and Haryana in December.
“Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken up plantation of grass on the outfield. All the barren patches will be covered with grass and later we will take up the mowing work. We are thinking of buying a roller to level the outfield as the existent one has become redundant,” said KDCA secretary Koka Ramesh on Saturday. The VMC has already constructed new rooms for match referee and umpires, which will be inaugurated during the Ranji match. “As per the directives of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the host association should provide facilities to the camera crew, which will be recording the entire match for four days. Cameras will be fixed at various vantage points of the stadium. Even the Under-22 and Under-19 matches are recorded,” Mr. Ramesh said.
The city had hosted a first class match in 2007, when Andhra clashed with Delhi.
