Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar, who has shifted his loyalty from TDP to TRS, has said that he will resign from his Assembly membership only if the people of his constituency demanded him to do so.

“The TDP had only given the party ticket to me. But the people of the constituency have elected me to power to serve them”, he maintained. He also said that he was not against TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu or TDP, but came out of the party for the cause of Telangana.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said that he was the first person to resign from the TDP when the statehood movement reached its peak in 2009. He said that he was not interested in enjoying the power. But he would resign from the legislator post only if the people ask him to do so for the cause of separate Telangana, he added.

To a query, he said that he had not forced any of the TDP cadres to join the TRS along with him. The TDP rank and file had voluntarily joined the TRS for the cause of separate Telangana. “If I had forced the cadres, then there will be no party workers left in other political parties,” he quipped.

Appealing the Telangana Congress and TDP leaders to shun their respective parties and join the separate statehood movement through TRS, he said that he would strive for separate Telangana statehood movement with true spirit till his last. “I will take up Telangana movement and also development of my constituency simultaneously,” he said.

He thanked the people for making the Karimnagar ‘kadanabheri’ meeting a grand success in Karimnagar town on Thursday night.
