VISAKHAPATNAM: Police seized cash totalling Rs.18 lakhs and 5.5 kg of silver from three persons in as many incidents during vehicle checking on Saturday and Sunday. The money was unaccounted.
During a vehicle check at the RTC Complex Rs.8 lakhs being carried by one person in a travel bag was held by the Two Town police on Sunday evening.
Circle Inspector M. Narasimha Rao said Doppa Ramu, 28, was carrying the money for sending it as luggage to Hyderabad by the bus of a private travel agency at Sitampeta. As he was unable to account for the money, it was seized and he was produced in the MRO court.
In another incident on Saturday night, the Gajuwaka police and the CISF personnel checking vehicles seized Rs.10 lakhs of unaccounted money from DRK Raju at Aganampudi on Saturday night, Circle Inspector M. Narasmiha Murthy said. A silver ingot weighing 5.5 kg was seized from Sk.Ali at New Gajuwaka Junction on Saturday night, he added.
The Task Force police, in raids since Saturday midnight, seized 149 bottles of liquor, sachets and Rs.74,700 in cash from persons running ‘belt shops’ (illegal liquor outlets) and selling liquor.
According to sub-inspector Lakshmana Murthy, 75 bottles of liquor and Rs.64,700 in cash were seized from a person selling liquor at a pan shop near Rama Talkies and close to a bar.
Another was arrested near Dutt Island with 52 bottles and the third one at Maddilapalem RTC Complex with 22 bottles of liquor and Rs.10,000 in cash.
A man selling liquor in sachets and packing them in cardboard boxes of mosquito repellents was arrested on Sunday at Kurmannapalem.
