Concerned over consumers' difficulties due to delayed supply of cylinders by LPG distributors, the Assembly Estimates Committee has suggested that new agencies be opened to meet the growing demand.
Cutting across party lines, members of the committee led by chairman N. Uttam Kumar Reddy (Congress) decried the lackadaisical attitude of the LPG distribution agencies in meeting the needs of the consumers. The MLAs submitted written complaints about the irregularities in Jagtial (Karimnagar) and Kodad and Huzurnagar (Nalgonda).
Complaints about the failure of the agencies in supplying LPG cylinders in rural areas and to Deepam beneficiaries were brought to the committee's notice. Representative of the State Level Coordinator for Oil Industry told the panel that plans are afoot for increasing the number of distributors by concentrating in the rural areas.
