Hotel Daspalla near Jagadamba Junction in the city will celebrate its silver jubilee on Wednesday. Announcing this at a media get-together on Monday, chairman of Daspalla Group of Hotels M. Raghavendra Rao said the management was providing the staff with gifts, new clothes, groceries and incentives on the occasion.

During the last 25 years, Daspalla had become a four-star hotel and established a three-star Hotel Daspalla Executive Court, Tycoon and Heritage twin restaurants in the city. Daspalla had also extended its wings to Kakinada where ‘Jaya Residency', Hotel Daspalla, a four-star hotel at Hyderabad and Geetha Regency at Guntur. The turnover of Daspalla group was Rs.65 crore and it employed about 1,100 persons, he said.

“During the past 25 years, Visakhapatnam city developed to some extent as a tourist spot. However, the hotel industry had not developed to expected levels due to different taxes levied. Particularly VAT, service tax, luxury tax, and other related taxes. The tax policies of the government and tremendous increase in the maintenance costs, it has become difficult for the hotel industry to flourish,” Mr. Raghavendra Rao observed.

He called for better encouragement from the government for hotel industry and tourism to flourish. General Managers Prashant and Purushotham were present.
