The mass fast by inmates of MR (Autonomous) College hostel in front of the warden’s room continued for the second day on Tuesday, as talks between SFI leaders, the District BC Welfare Officer, and college principal failed. The authorities left without giving them an assurance. The inmates, under the aegis of the SFI, have been demanding that the college management run the hostel without burdening them. But, the management has rejected their plea and asked them to pay at least Rs. 1,000 per head to run the hostel and announced closure of the hostel from Monday. The government has so far not reimbursed mess allowances due since June this year to the management.
SFI district secretary A. Jagan Mohana Rao appealed to the management to pool resources from MANSAS Trust or elsewhere till the government reimbursed the amount. Keeping the deteriorating health of a couple of students in view, the SFI leader talked to Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana in the afternoon in this regard. He reportedly said the Collector would be asked to sort out the issue.
