The city police have warned hookah centres against allowing minors on the premises and keeping the centres open beyond 9 p.m. The warning follows police raids on three hookah centres at Banjara hills on Sunday night in which four minors were taken into custody.
V. Satyanarayana, DCP (West), said hookah centre managements should verify the age of the customers before allowing them on the premises. It is mandatory on their part to check the identity cards of the customers, failing which strict action will be initiated against them,” he said. There are about 36 hookah centres in the West Zone, which includes Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Jubilee Hills and Ameerpet. Police raided as many as 25 centres and booked cases against them for violating rules under the Hyderabad City Police Act and Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COTP) Act 2003, he explained.
