HYDERABAD: Two hoax calls made by an unidentified woman on Friday on bombs being planted at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad triggered panic among passengers and security personnel.
The woman speaking in chaste Punjabi made the first call from mobile phone at around 11.15 a.m. to the airport call centre and informed that a bomb was kept in aeroexpress bus that was parked near the airport and it would explode at any time. She made another call after five minutes stating that a bomb was planted inside the airport.
The call centre staffers immediately alerted the police who pressed two bomb disposal squads into service.
After a thorough search of the airport premises for over two hours, the police confirmed that the calls were hoax.
“We are yet to identify the caller. We suspect that it would be the handiwork of some mischief mongers,” said Shamshabad Inspector M. Ramachandrudu.
