Banking activity came to a standstill for a couple of hours in the Innisupet branches of the State Bank of India and the Syrian Catholic Bank on Tuesday afternoon, as an unknown person called the DSP’s office and alerted that bombs were planted in the two bank branches and at the Reliance Mart near the railway station.
Alerted by the call, DSP (South) Sridevi Rao swung into action along with members of the bomb disposal squad and sniffers.
The police teams rushed to the bank branches and the mart, and vacated the premises within no time.
It took two hours for the police to come to the conclusion that the call was hoax. The DSP said the call details were recorded and an investigation was going on to spot the caller.
